Nutritional Therapy

We believe all foods fit.

Our dietitians create nutritionally-sound meal plans including balance, variety, and moderation.

Our nutrition program at Selah House is pivotal for our clients to reach recovery and reclaim freedom from their eating disorders. We realize meals can be one of the most difficult aspects of treatment. All of our Registered Dietitians and nutrition support staff are experts who work as a part of your therapeutic team to fully integrate the appropriate nutrition therapy into your treatment plan. Throughout the program, you will receive nutritional assessment, education, and individualized counseling with your Registered Dietitian.

Our approach to nutrition is based on the premise that all foods fit into a nutritionally-sound meal plan including balance, variety, and moderation. Clients learn to feel comfortable identifying and responding to feelings of hunger and fullness when appropriate while portioning food for themselves. We practice “real life” eating during treatment and introduce clients to the principles of Intuitive Eating. All our food is prepared on-site in the kitchen and clients can participate in meal preparation with our Registered Dietitians as part of weekly Cooking Group.

Skills Through Nutritional Therapy

nutritional care at Selah HouseAt Selah, as we live life together, you will learn practical skills around meal planning and food selection in a home-like setting to support your recovery. Dining with peers is a regular occurrence, where fun and fellowship are taught as we gather around the table. Supported/supervised group meals facilitate normal social eating and provide a format to address rituals and other eating disorder behaviors.

Our unique family-style meals provide just the right blend of sharing food together while considering individual preferences. We then build on this foundation with individualized snacks as needed to achieve each patient’s unique nutritional needs, including weight restoration when necessary. As patients gain insight, skills, and confidence, they learn to choose and portion their own snacks with the help of our caring team and participate in meal and grocery outings. This unique and tailored approach helps patients prepare for the transition back home to independence and the flexibility needed in real life.
