UFED Treatment Center
During the 1980s, the media offered a lot of information about eating disorders. Then, around the beginning of the 1990s, the focus shifted as societal and cultural changes occurred. The unfortunate part of this is eating disorders were a significant problem in America then, and still are now. For a variety of different reasons, teenagers and women are particularly vulnerable to eating disorders. At Selah House UFED treatment center, we focus our treatment efforts on an obscure but dangerous eating disorder known as unspecified feeding or eating disorder.
UFED – Unspecified Feeding or Eating Disorders
Eating disorders can take a variety of forms. Some of the more prevalent disorders include anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating. When a client enters treatment with a disorder that does not align with a traditional diagnosis, experts classify them as having unspecified feeding or eating disorders (UFED).
How a UFED Treatment Center Renders Treatment Services
At our welcoming eating disorder treatment center in Indiana, we start a client’s diagnosis by looking for a range of potential eating disorders. If we notice they are exhibiting behaviors that fall outside of standard diagnosis guidelines, then the focus of our diagnosis will shift to UFED.
Once a UFED treatment center counselor has made a diagnosis, the treatment process becomes familiar. The client’s physical health will always be the primary concern. A counselor will then get the client to meet with a nutrition specialist to develop a meal plan. The sooner the client starts eating normally, the faster their physical health will return.
As for counseling, the client will delve into the potential mental/emotional causes of their behavior. It’s important they and their counselor identify these issues in order to help target behavior modification efforts. At our UFED treatment Indiana location, we use evidence-based treatment options like Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, as well as variations of family therapy. The goal is to help the client recognize their issues, modify their behaviors, and develop better coping skills.
